CLEARFIELD – When approving personnel changes at Tuesday’s meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners accepted the resignation of former Veterans Affairs Director Dominick Kurtz. His resignation is to be effective Dec. 31.
Kurtz had previously “stepped down” from leading the county’s Veterans Affairs office in late October. At the time, Commissioner Chairperson Joan Robinson-McMillen said Kurtz had resigned for “personal reasons,” according to previous GantDaily reports.
When asked after Tuesday’s board meeting, she explained that at the time he’d stepped down, the county and Kurtz had agreed his resignation wouldn’t be effective until the end of the year. She said he’s been using his employee leave.
In November, the commissioners approved paying James Schuckers of Clearfield a $20 per hour sub-contract fee for assisting in the transition occurring in the Veterans Affairs office. Schuckers has been filling a couple days a week.
Commissioner Mark B. McCracken said that Schuckers had previously served as the county’s Veterans Affairs director in the early to mid-1990’s and was in that capacity for approximately four years, according to a previous GantDaily report.
Robinson-McMillen said the county plans to begin interviewing Veterans Affairs director candidates early next year with hopes of filling the position by the end of January. She said the Veterans Affairs committee has presented them with six candidate recommendations, and two committee members will be involved with the interview process.
