HARRISBURG – Twenty-one Clearfield County 4-H members recently participated in the 52nd Annual Pennsylvania State 4-H Horse Show held at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg on Oct. 28 through Oct. 30. Youth from 58 counties qualified for this year’s show.  Over 900 youth with 996 horses participated in 48 performance and 100 production classes and special events throughout the weekend. Six Clearfield County 4-H members came home from Harrisburg with first place wins.
The state show is the final competition of the year for 4-H horse club members enrolled in performance and production projects. To be eligible for the show, members must advance through qualifying competitions at county, regional and district levels. Events include breed conformation and futurity classes in the production division, plus showmanship, equitation, pleasure, over fences, driving, western riding, reining, trail, county team, pleasure pairs and timed events in the performance division. A therapeutic riding division for riders with special needs is also included.Â
All performance champions in the show were awarded leather bracelets with brass engraved plates donated by Perri’s Leather of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania. Performance winners received champion ribbons and pewter plates and production champions received champion ribbons and engraved photo plates. All exhibitors in the therapeutic riding division received medallions donated by Hoy’s Trophies and Awards of Export, Pennsylvania. Several sponsors donated items for the silent auction with proceeds to benefit the 4-H horse program. Show management and participants appreciate the continued support and generous donations from Perri’s Leather and contributions from all show sponsors.Â
