CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council is urging residents to dispose of their Christmas trees at one of two disposal sites.
The discussion was an extension of last week’s council committees meeting. Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott indicated that discussions were held with Lawrence Township Supervisor William Lawhead. She stated that Lawhead recommended the two municipalities set up a schedule where the township’s Mann Road site be open for residents to dispose of their Christmas trees. Stott pointed out that, in the past, some people have not been responsible with the drop off, leaving lights on the trees. One such incident damaged the township’s chipper.
Council member Fred Wisor, who’s taken some heat for his stance on the issue, addressed a letter that was aimed at him.
Wisor explained why he feels it’s an added expense to the borough to pick trees up at the various parks. He stated that people use their own vehicles to search for the trees, purchase them, bring them home, then take them to one of the former drop sites. He stated the borough then has to assign two workers and a truck to go those sites, pick the trees up, take them to the compost sites, and possibly unwrap them, if they are bagged.
Council agreed to encourage residents to drop the trees off at either the Mann Road location or the borough’s site on 21st Street.
