WARSAW TOWNSHIP – A 46-year-old Brookville man is facing charges after fleeing the scene of a single-vehicle accident that occurred at 3:30 a.m. Friday in Warsaw Township, Jefferson County, the DuBois-based state police reported.
According to the accident report, the man was traveling southbound in the right-hand lane near Eagles Nest Road. His pick-up truck left the roadway for an unknown reason, traveling along the east berm, where the front of his truck struck and sheared off a utility pole.
At that point, his truck continued along the east berm, where it subsequently struck a property owner’s mailbox before traveling westward across the roadway, through a field along the west berm and onto Eagles Nest Road.
State police said the man failed to stop at the accident scene and continued to travel west on Eagles Nest Road. After the state police cleared the accident scene, they followed a trail of debris and antifreeze up Eagles Nest Road onto Egypt Road, where the truck was located approximately four miles from the accident scene and minus its operator.
Through telephone calls and interviews, state police determined the man’s identity, and numerous traffic charges are to be filed against him. The man was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to the accident report.
