John Skebo, 84, of Olanta, passed away Nov. 29, 2011 at the Ridgeview Elder Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville.
Born Aug. 14, 1927 in Olanta, he was the son of Samuel and Bessie (Stanchik) Skebo. Mr. Skebo was first employed by the Ryan Coal Company and then was retired from construction work as a member of the Operating Engineers Union.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Ukranian Byzantine Catholic Church in Ramey and was a U S Army Veteran of the Second World War.
He was wed to the former Ella Mae (Rowles) on June 16, 1956 who survives along with 3 children. John Allen Skebo and Samuel L. Skebo and his wife Stephanie, both of Curwensville and Theresa Lingle and her husband Gary of DuBois.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: John D. “JD” Skebo, Jerod A. Skebo, Jacob M. Skebo, Morgan Lingle, Matthew Lingle, Ashley Skebo and Sheridan Skebo, a brother Harry Skebo and his wife Helen of Ginter and a sister Julie Tallant and her husband William of Tupelo, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Susan Skebo, an infant granddaughter Santana Skebo, 4 brothers Pete, Wasco, Michael, and Joseph Skebo, and 3 sisters Christine Skebo, Kathryn Olexy, and Anna Washic.
The Parastas will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Ukranian Byzantine Catholic Church in Ramey on Dec. 2 at 11:00 a.m., with the Very Reverend Father Anthony Balistreri as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Ukranian Catholic Cemetery, Ramey.
Friends will be received at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville, on Dec. 1 from 4 to 8 p.m., and again on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m., when the funeral procession will depart for the church.

Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Joint Honor Guard.
