Thomas Ferguson III, 79 of Philipsburg, passed away on Nov. 28, 2011 at his residence.
Born Nov. 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ruth (Waple) Ferguson.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Philipsburg. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #5020 of Osceola Mills. He was a life member and past chief and former president of the Reliant Fire Company in Philipsburg. He was also a past president of the Philipsburg Fire Department and a former member of the Moshannon Valley Fire Council. He was a member and past president of Philipsburg Borough Council, a former member of the Philipsburg Planning Commission, a member of the Rush Township Emergency Management Agency and a member of the Philipsburg Heritage Days Committee.
He had been a truck driver for various oil companies, including Nittany Oil Company, until he retired.
On May 4, 1956, he wed the former Nancy C. Miller. She passed away April 1, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and one sister.
He is survived by daughters Irella Quick and her husband Randy of Wallaceton and Joan Ferguson of Philipsburg; sons Thomas G. Ferguson of Osceola Mills and Robert E. Ferguson and his wife Dawn of Osceola Mills; sisters Effie Neidig of Hawk Run, Genevieve Weaver and her husband of William of Rebersburg, Jeanette Steele of Grassflat, Marie Krasinksi and her husband James of Kylertown and Louise Bean and her husband Kenneth of York; brother John Ferguson of Philipsburg; grandchildren Edward Quick of Pittsburgh, Brandy Quick of Wallaceton and R.J. Kephart of Osceola Mills; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg.
