The Penn State DuBois women’s basketball team (2-1) picked up its first road win as they topped Westmoreland County Community College, 56-42 on Thursday night. WCCC came into the game with a perfect 3-0 record and dropped their record to (3-1).
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 36-21 halftime lead and never let the lead drop below 10 points in the second half to secure the win.
“I felt that the girls really stepped it up defensively tonight and we really controlled the tempo of the game by controlling the boards,” stated DuBois coach Pat Lewis.
The Lady Lions were lead by Tessa Vargas (Sheffield) as she scored 12 points and had 5 steals. Karlee Cyphert (North Clarion) chipped in 9 points and 3 assists. Patience McCullough (Purchase Line) and Kelsey Rini (East Forest) grabbed 11 rebounds each. They were not alone cleaning the glass as Jenna Matzinger (Coudersport) and Karly Carnovale (Elk County) pulled down 8 and 7 rebounds respectively.
The Lady Lions return to action as they host the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville, Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Game time is 6:00 pm.
