CURWENSVILLE – On Senior Night 2011 the Curwensville Lady Tide volleyball team dropped a 4-set match to Brockway for the second time this year to close out the regular season with a 9-8 record.
The Lady Rovers came out strong and claimed the first two sets before Curwensville picked a win in game three, then lost a tight one in the fourth and final game – 17-25, 20-25, 25-18, 24 26.
It wasn’t the way Lady Tide head coach Sandy Bailor wanted the final match to play out, but she hasn’t lost faith in her team heading to the playoffs next week, “It was a disappointing way to end our regular season and especially on Senior Night. We again came out flat the first two sets of the match and then with our backs against the wall they knew that they had to step it up and start playing. We took the third set very handily and then the fourth set was a back and forth, long volley set and we came up short of sending the match to the fifth game. We talked at lenght after the match that we can’t afford to go into our playoff game on Tuesday against Cranberry flat footed. We need to be ready to play and if we do that I feel we have a good chance of a nice run in the playoffs.”

The junior varsity team lost two games to one to finish their season at 8-9.
The Lady Tide will now head to the District IX playoffs, which begin for Curwensville on Tuesday November 1.
The #11 seed Lady Tide will travel to #6 seed Cranberry in an opening round match. The winner will then travel to #3 seed AC Valley for a quarterfinal matchup.
