UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State preseason All-Big Ten wide receiver Derek Moye (Rochester) is expected to miss the Nittany Lions’ next two games with a foot injury.
A senior co-captain, Moye broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot Tuesday evening when he slipped on stairs in his apartment after dinner. Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State Director of Athletic Medicine, said Moye’s injury will not require surgery and he could return for the Oct. 29 home game with unbeaten Illinois.
The Nittany Lions host Purdue on Saturday at 12 p.m. and visit Northwestern on Oct. 22 for a 6 p.m. CT contest prior to hosting the Illini.
A candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, Moye leads Penn State with 28 receptions for 485 yards (17.3) and three touchdowns. He is sixth in the Big Ten in receptions and fifth in receiving yards. Moye ranks in the Penn State career top five in receptions (5th, 132), receiving yards (3rd, 2,226) and receiving touchdowns (4th, 18).
Three Nittany Lions who missed last week’s win over Iowa have returned to practice this week and should be available for the Purdue game: tailback Brandon Beachum, cornerback D’Anton Lynn and cornerback Stephon Morris.
