CURWENSVILLE — On Thursday nighth at Patton Gymnasium the Lady Tide were looking for revenge against a DuBois team that beat them 3-1 to open the season on September 6.
Unfortunately, the upset bid fell just short as Curwensville (5-5) won the first two sets but was edged in the end by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 16-25, 15-25, 14-16.
Head coach Sandy Bailor had this to say about the potential win that got away, “We started out strong the first two sets of the match and we let the next two sets get away from us. We were doing everything right the first two sets – playing aggressively, moving on the court, passes were where they needed to be for our setters, and our hitters were doing a great job finding the holes and putting the ball down. Then next two sets we settled back and played DuBois’ game, we stopped playing aggressively and played alot of free balls instead of attacking the ball. The 5th game we came back to life and played one heck of a game, we just came up short. I am disappointed in the way we played the 3rd and 4th sets, but very pleased with the 1st, 2nd, and 5th set. We need to be able to finish a match in three sets and not let a team back into the match and that’s what happened tonight – especially when we are playing the bigger schools. I feel this is a good learning experience for the girls. DuBois is a good team and we hung right in there with them, we just let this one get away from us. We host St. Mary’s on Monday – again a good team. Hopefully we can give them a good match and come out with a win against a quality team.”
