Thomas Daniel Salada, age 57, of West Main St. in Boalsburg, PA, formerly of DuBois, PA passed away Sept. 30, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.Â
He was born Oct. 15, 1953 in DuBois, PA. He was the son of William T. Salada, who still survives and lives in DuBois, PA and Jewel (McCarthy) Salada, who preceded him in death.Â
He graduated from DuBois High School in 1971. In 1972, Tom joined the U.S. Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman. While stationed with HS-9 Sea Griffins he deployed overseas onboard the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68). After he was honorably discharged in 1978, he met the love of his life, Gail (Amundson) Salada who survives. They married in June of 1982.Â
He graduated from Penn State University in 1985 with a B.S. in Microbiology. After graduating, he was employed by Penn State and has worked there 26 years. The last 5 years he has run Penn State’s Transgenic Mouse Facility. Outside of work, he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader.Â
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Meghan Black and her husband, Nate of Zion, PA, Zachary Salada, U.S. Navy, Camp Lejeune, NC, Dana Salada of Boalsburg, PA and Douglas Salada of Boalsburg, PA, five brothers, Howard G. Salada and his wife, Chris of DuBois, PA, Bill Salada of DuBois, PA, Terry Salada and his wife, Laura of Biglerville, PA, John Salada of Sykesville, PA and Patrick Salada and his wife, Nicki of London, England. Family meant everything to him and he always enjoyed visiting with many nieces and nephews.Â
A celebration of life will take place at Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, PA on Oct. 6, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Â
Visitation will be held on Oct. 7 from 5-8 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home in DuBois, PA.
A ritual service will be conducted on Oct. 8 at 10:45 a.m. from Mt. Zion Methodist Church by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Funeral services will be held on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. from the Mt. Zion Methodist Church in DuBois with the Rev. Ron Lindahl and Pastor Brent Book officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded at Salem Cemetery.
