CLEARFIELD – On Sept. 23, Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. and McGruff the Crime Dog spoke to members of the Houtzdale Cub Scout Pack 51 at Mountz Memorial Park in Janesville.
During the presentation, Shaw discussed the role of a prosecutor and the District Attorney’s Office to the Cub Scouts. He explained that the District Attorney’s Office works with both the police and judges when crimes are committed, and that crime can be committed by both adults and young people.
Additionally, Shaw explained that young people sometimes engage in activity referred to as bullying, and that bullying can take place both in and out of school. He instructed the Scouts on what to do if they are being bullied and also what to do if they see other young people being bullied. Shaw stressed to the pack members the importance of being leaders among their friends and that they can set good examples for others to follow and prevent bullying.
Shaw congratulated Pack 51 Scout Masters Don and Nichole Wonderling for recognizing the importance of educating young people on dealing with bullies. Shaw stated that McGruff the Crime Dog was very pleased to see so many young Scouts learning about this very important issue.
