UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Junior Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) was listed as No. 108 in this year’s ITA Division 1 Preseason Women’s Singles Rankings. This marks the second year in a row she was nationally ranked before the season began. As a sophomore last season, Januskova was rated No. 81 in the country.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranks the nation’s top 125 players in both men’s and women’s singles play, as well as the top sixty men’s and women’s doubles partners and the best overall teams.
Januskova hopes to build off of a successful sophomore season in which she was named first-team All-Big Ten and ranked in the ITA poll for most of the year. She led the Nittany Lions with a 14-8 record, including five victories over ranked opponents.
Following her successful sophomore campaign, Januskova continued her stellar play this summer by winning the singles title at the Tommy and Lefebvre Ontario Open in the beginning of August. In addition to capturing the singles crown, she also reached the doubles final with her sister Erika as her partner. The prestigious tournament featured thirty-two of Canada’s best players from all over the country.
Januskova begins fall play with the rest of her teammates on Friday, Sept. 23, at the University of Pennsylvania.
