CURWENSVILLE — Down 2-0 to the Lady Chucks of Punxsutawney, the Curwensville Lady Tide Tide volleyball team mounted a huge comeback to sweep the final three games to earn the upset 3-2. The scores were 17-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 16-14.
With the stunner, Curwensville upped their record to 2-1 on the season.
Understandably so, Lady Tide Head Coach was excited about the victory, “Winning this match was a great win for the girls and for the program; Punxsy has a good strong program and every year we step on the court with them we have to be on the top of our game to not only compete but to get a win!”
Bailor would rather forget the first two games, where she felt her squad may have been intimidated by the big school girls from Punxsy, but after that it was all Lady Tide.
Bailor noted that, “…in the third game we dominated. Savannah (Strickland) and Katrina (Seaburn) started to play the net with alot of aggressiveness and with the help of Madison (Peterman) and Olivia (Prave) getting the sets to where they needed to be the girls were able to put the ball down and the fact that we were able to keep the serve and have some runs. After that set the girls seemed to gain some confidence and they believed that they could beat Punxsy. In the 4th set we played aggressively and had some solid defense from Ricki (Wells), Hannah (Bressler) and Tiera (Shope) and we were able to push the match to the deciding 5th game. I told the girls we play to 15, so we needed to play smart and we needed to keep the serves. We battled back and fourth with some stellar offense in Savannah and Katrina; and our setters were able to put some points on the board with their smart play at the net, again our defense stepped it up and didn’t let anything hit the floor. we were down 14-12 when Madison Peterman stepped to the line and kept she kept the serve to win the match at 16-14.”
Stat Leaders:
Madi Peterman – 27 assists, 15 service points
Olivia Prave – 22 assists, 12 service points
Katrina Seaburn – 10 kills, 8 service points
Ricki Wells –Â 7 service points, 22 digs
Hannah Bressler – 30 digs
Savannah Strickland – 16 service points, 16 kills, 10 blocks
Tierra Shope – 17 digs, 3 kills
The junior varsity team fell to 1-2 on the year after dropping two sets 9-25 and 15-15.
Coach Bailor summed it all up with, “It was a solid team effort. I can’t say enough about the way the girls displayed such character and heart to be down two games and come back to win the match, I am really proud of them.”
The Lady Tide has a few days to enjoy big win as they won’t be on the court until Monday September 19, when they face the rival Lady Bisons of Clearfield.
