DUBOIS – PennDOT joined representatives from the Penn State University DuBois Student Government and the DuBois City Police Department to remind motorists and pedestrians that they each have responsibilities in maintaining safety around crosswalks.
The officials discussed laws regarding safety for pedestrians and motorists in pedestrian-heavy areas. Media and those in attendance were reminded that motorists must yield to pedestrians within painted crosswalks as pedestrians have the right of way. Pedestrians were also reminded of their responsibility to ensure that the roadway is safe to cross before proceeding into the crosswalk.
In the spring, a pedestrian channelizing device was placed along state Route 255 (Shaffer Road) to alert motorists that, by Pennsylvania law, they must yield to pedestrians in that crosswalk.
