UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State softball head coach Robin Petrini and her teammates from the 1980 and 1981 Utah State Aggies team will be inducted into the USU Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend in Logan, Utah.
Petrini played shortstop for the Aggies from 1980-83 and won two AIAW national championships during her time at Utah State. The Aggies won the 1980 and 1981 championships following 5-1 runs through the respective national tournaments. The 1980 squad went 35-16, while the ’81 team went 34-12.
The official ceremonial induction will take place Friday night in Logan. The teams, along with five other former athletes, will be presented at half time of Saturday’s Utah State-Weber State football game.
Petrini is the all-time leader in triples (15) at USU, while ranking eighth in hits (171), runs (80) and ninth in total bases (241). IN 1981, Petrini smacked a career-high seven triples in 1981. She earned All-Region First Team honors in 1983, while being named to the All-Intermountain Conference First Team in 1981. In 1982, Petrini led the Aggies in home runs and RBI as a junior.
Petrini will enter her 16th season as head coach of the Nittany Lions in 2012 and is the all-time leader in wins (455). Petrini has been PSU’s most successful coach in program history, leading the Lions to eight NCAA Regional appearances since 2000, including last year’s run to the University Park Regional Final.
