On the pole for the Pure Stock feature race was this years champion Mike Calhoun in the 25 car from Brockway. On his outside in the 417 car out of St. Marys was Matt Heindl. Heindl didn’t waste any time in tucking the car tight in behind Calhoun. Right behind them was Steve Arthurs in the 01 car from Falls Creek. Heindl worked both the low and high lines trying to gain an advantage on Calhoun and when Heindl was low Arthurs was high as they both traded places looking for the lead. Arthurs finally found the right line on lap 6 and took the lead from Calhoun followed closely by Heindl. . The 471 car slowed and the 78 of Ray Billote from Mineral Springs and the 88 car of Dustin Fields from Brockport drove around both sides of Heindl on the backstretch. Heindl’s night ended early with a flat tire giving the second position back to Calhoun. Billote held third for a lap but also had to pit with car trouble. This gave the opportunity to move up to Dustin Fields in the 88 car out of Brockport and Colton Joiner from DuBois in the 1* machine. Arthurs continued to lead with pressure being applied by Calhoun and while the racing was close Arthurs had it covered taking his fifth win of the season.
The winner of the lone heat race was Steve Arthurs.
This week’s Limited Late Model feature had less controversy but was no less exciting to watch as the champion and runner up showed how it should be done with another great race. Dwayne Brooks and Luke Hoffner filled the front row as a result of their 2011 point finishes in first and second place. Brooks took to the lead with Hoffner in hot pursuit. Hoffner looked low and high and threw the car into the turns trying to gain the advantage on Brooks. Bruce Raybuck from Falls Creek followed them in the 10J car. John Chesnalavich Jr. in the 812 car from Reynoldsville and Bob McMillen from St. Marys in the #50 were putting on a great show racing side by side for fourth and fifth. McMillen was on the move finally making it by Chesnalavich and then getting under Raybuck into third place. On a lap eleven-restart mayhem in turn four brought out the caution flag with a number of cars involved. McMillen suffered the brunt of the damage in the caution, which ended his night. Raybuck tailed the field on the restart. Up front it was still Brooks leading as Hoffner tried to find enough bite to make the pass. At one point Hoffner drifted high in turn two and lost traction giving Brooks a slight cushion. Lapped traffic began to come into play and both drivers had to work their way through slower cars. Just behind them Ed Connor had worked his way forward with a nice run and was in third place followed by Chesnalavich and Bill Davis from Luthersburg in the 3D. Now it was Brook’s turn to drift a bit high in turn two and Hoffner wasted no time in taking advantage of it and took the lead position. Lapped traffic again came into play as both drivers came out of turn four on the last lap. It looked like Hoffner may be held up behind the cars and Brooks tried the sling shot move coming out of four on the high side. Hoffner slid out around the lap cars and squeezed the door shut along the front stretch. Brooks had to lift slightly and Hoffner held on for the win and another exciting finish in the Limited Late Model Class.
Heat races were won by McMillen, and Davis.
18 Street Stocks made the call for their feature race with this years champion Joe Kot on the pole in the 37 car from DuBois. Kot took to the lead early but Jamie Price from Clearfield tried to make it a short one by keeping his #137 machine on the outside for the first lap. Close on Kot’s bumper was Fuzzy Fields from Brockport in the 28 car. Also in the mix was Brandon Connor in the 17C car from DuBois. Racing for first through fourth was intense even through numerous cautions. Fields finally made it into the lead on lap 6. You really had to pay attention to see who was in second through fourth with Kot, Connor, and Price trading places. A fast 96E car driven by Tim Fannin from Ridgway was having a good night tonight working his way up as high as fourth place following close behind Price and Connor. Coming back into the picture was Brian Rhed in the 69R also from Brockport. He had been relegated to the back of the pack in an earlier incident but had been making up ground on the leaders. Price got tangled up in a caution on lap 14 and had some damage to the car but was able to restart but at the back of the field limiting another good run by the 137. Connor continued to pressure Kot while Rhed worked his way around Fannin. Connor finally made the pass for second as the laps wound down. The 17C car has been near the front on a regular basis in the past few weeks and looked good again tonight in some tight racing. Fields took the win by 6 car lengths followed by Connor, Kot, Rhed and Fannin.
In the heat races, Connor and Fields took first place.
The Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders were last feature race of the evening. It was also an exciting one to watch. Shawn Fedder in the 38A car out of Clearfield and Bryan Warren from Curwensville in the #5 car made it a drag race down the backstretch at the start of the race. Warren couldn’t move into the lead and the 5L of Aaron Luzier, also from Clearfield was tucked tight on Fedder’s bumper moving under Warren into second. As Fedder and Luzier put on a great show up front the action was no less interesting right behind them. Warren had his hands full with the 7 car driven by Danny White from DuBois and Mike Luzier in the 81 car out of Philipsburg. All three cars traded places with White taking a very high line and Warren hugging the infield tires. Lucas also worked the high line in his new Honda front wheel drive. His wife Stephanie had her hands full back in seventh position with an ill handling car. Luzier tried every position on the track to get around Fedder up front. Behind them White made the 7-car stick on the outside and moved ahead of Warren into third. Fedder was just too strong and made good use of the race tack and traffic to bring the car home in first place.
Fedder and Luzier won the Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinder heat races.
