SATTERLEE GETS THIRD STRAIGHT; NEWLIN GETS CAREER FIRST AT DOG HOLLOW
STRONGSTOWN, PA – Andrew Satterlee of Rochester Mills picked up his third straight Stoystown Auto Wreckers Fastrak Late Model feature Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway while Jayson Newlin of Penn Run picked up his career first feature win in the Four Cylinder Sidewinders.
Repeat winners on Stoystown Auto Wreckers Trophy night included: Clate Copeman of Greensburg in the Townsend Gas and Oil Super Late Models, Nick Goss of Punxsutawney in the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Street Stocks, Justin Queen of Irvona in the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stocks and Mark Maglet of Nanty Glo in the Modified Four Cylinders.
The Super Late Models hit the speedway with Denny Fenton and Rick Davis on the front row, with Davis taking the lead at the start and setting a pretty torrid pace, but on the third lap a multi-car crash occurred in turns three and four, halting the action. Several cars were out for the night, but no one was hurt.
On the restart Davis was still leading, but fifth place starter Jeff Rine was looking for the leader and on lap five, Rine was able to catch Davis and he took the lead, leaving second to be a hard fought race between Davis and Clate Copeman.
As the race wore on Rine was building up a nice lead, but on lap 17 Rine coasted to a stop along the backstretch as the #92 lost power.
The fight for second then became a battle for the win, with Copeman taking second from Davis on lap 13. Davis was able to hold on to second, as Copeman went on to record his second win of the season. Davis, Sammy Stile, Dwayne Taneyhill and Mike Blose rounded out the top five. Copeman, Sam Gindlesperger and Rine took heat wins.
Joey Petyak and Mike Laughard led the Fastrak Late Models to the start with the pair drag racing into the first turn, but Laughard came out of turn two in the lead. Petyak was holding onto second until seventh place started Andrew Satterlee came up to battle for the position, and on a lap five restart, Satterlee went from third to the lead.
As he set the pace, Laughard had to contend with Petyak, but his handling went away and he lost a few spots, then John Eckenrod was in third and reeling in Laughard, but when the checkered flag fell it was all Satterlee with his fifth win of the season and third straight. Laughard, Eckenrod, Jim Boyer and Ken Herman completed the top five. Tim Snare Jr., Billy Stile III and Boyer won the preliminaries.
Nick Goss started the Street Stock feature on the pole with Tyler Hite beside him as Kevin Smyers threw the green flag, Goss took the lead but he didn’t just pull away as Hite was right there the whole time with Corey Neal in third. It was all Goss as he went on to get his sixth win of the season with Hite breaking with just one lap to go. At the finish it was Goss over Ray Hickok, Jeff Sweeney, Hite held on to get fourth and Andy Klingensmith was fifth. Hickok and Hite split heat wins.
The Pure Stock field was led to the start with Tim Laughard, subbing for Adam Pletcher and Justin Queen on the front row. At the drop of the green, Queen took the lead from Laughard, but Laughard and third place Matt Krause were hounding Queen, trying to reel him in, Queen was doing everything he could to hold them off, and as the laps wound down, Laughard was trying everything he had, but Queen was able to hold on for his fourth win of the season. Laughard, Krause, Jim Hamilton and Marshal Detwiler completed the top five. Laughard and Krause won the heats.
It didn’t pay to be leading the Four Cylinder Sidewinder feature, as Ray Edwards led Jay Schettini for the first two laps, then Jayson Newlin took second, but only for one lap, as Mark Wetzel Jr. moved into second. On the seventh lap, Edwards broke, giving the lead over to Wetzel, but one lap later, he also broke, again while leading. This gave the top spot to Newlin, who had his hands full, as Chris Yoder and John Hayes were throwing everything at the young Penn Run driver, who was determined to get his career first win. Yoder, Hayes, Wild Bill Hassenplug and Gus Davis completed the top five. Yoder, Hassenplug and Edwards were heat winners.
Mark Maglet did something no one else has done this season in the Modified Four Cylinder main, he passed Bob Pease and stayed ahead to get his second win of the season. Pease started on the pole and was setting a good pace, until Maglet came from fifth on lap seven, took the lead and never looked back, picking up the win. Pease, Paul Little, Tim Brant and Chris Hickok completed the top five. Maglet and Little won the heats.
