NASCAR tried everything to put off the inevitable, but unfortunately they couldn’t.
The green flag for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen was set to fly shortly after 1 p.m. But, Mother Nature decided to play a factor and began sending sprinkles, which soon turned to rain drops.
After three hours, the rain slowed enough that NASCAR sent out the jet driers to try and dry the track, and had some success. However, after just a half hour on the track, the rain picked up once again.
It didn’t take long for NASCAR to decide that there wasn’t enough time or daylight to dry the track. NASCAR officially made the call shortly before 4:30 to postpone the race.
The green flag is now set to fly Monday morning beginning at 10 a.m. The weather is still not the greatest, with a 70 percent chance of rain in the forecast at Watkins Glen International in the morning.
