CLEARFIELD – A new form of competition involving cooking and baking was introduced to the Clearfield County Fair this year.
The new competitions consisted of an Amazing Appetizer Contest sponsored by Ethan’s Café and the Angry Bean, an adult cake decorating contest and a kid’s cupcake decorating contest sponsored by Sweet Art Bakery and a King Arthur’s Flour adult and junior cake contest.
All the cakes and appetizers had to be pre-registered and be at the Grove Stage no later than 11:45 a.m. on Aug. 1, and judging began at noon.
Amy Flanagan, coordinator of the culinary contest, said she would like to make this an annual event, and periodically add events from year to year.
“I’m thrilled with the turn out we had this year,” Flanagan said.
The winners of each of the contests were given a monetary prize as well as a rosette. The cakes were auctioned off at 3 p.m. at the Grove Stage.
