DUBOIS – A DuBois man has been arrested for allegedly detonating a commercial-grade firework that damaged two buildings in DuBois.
According to the DuBois City Police Department, 28-year-old Derek Haight has been charged with prohibited offensive weapon, arson and related offenses, criminal mischief, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.
Police said Haigh threw a commercial-grade mortar-fired firework next to the Hallstrom building on East Long Avenue. The device exploded, shattering several windows in the Hallstrom building and a window at an adjacent building. Police said there were employees in the Hallstrom building; no injuries were reported.
When Haight was located, the police officer located another commercial-grade firework on him. The item was seized and search warrant of Haight’s residence was obtained, where numerous other fireworks were located.
An explosive disposal team from State College detonated the firework at a secure location.
Haight is currently in Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
