John V. Juran, Jr., 70 of Palmyra and formerly of Clearfield, died on July 16, 2011 at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1940 in Harrisburg, a son of the late John V., Sr. and Rebecca May (Pankake) Juran.
John retired from the PA State Police after 29 years of dedicated service. During his tenure, John was called to aid in the Camp Hill prison riot. He also served on the Rodeo Team for two years and proudly served as one of a four officer team at the Eisenhower Farm security detail in Gettysburg for one summer.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the PA State Police Retirees Association, the Shellsville Veterans of Foreign Wars #9639 and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
John was an avid outdoorsman with a specific love for the beauty of nature surrounding him, particularly the rolling hills and landscape of the Clearfield area while pursuing his passion of hunting.
He also will be known for attending auctions, enjoying the camaraderie of the people and the quest for a bargain.
John was Catholic by faith.
He is survived by his wife, June (Shomo) Juran, whom he wed June 28, 1970 in Pleasant Valley;

Sandra Wolfe and husband Ken Lebanon
And numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Jon Mastromatteo, and a grandson Marshall Mastromatteo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Joy Cemetery, Clearfield.
Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the PA State Police.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9-9:30 a.m.
A Christian Vigil Service will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to PSP Historical Education Museum Center, 187 Police Academy Dr., Hershey, PA 17033.
