Mothers helping their sons navigate the NFL — that was the purpose of the Professional Football Players’ Mothers Association (PFPMA) when it started more than a decade ago. Since its inception, the PFPMA has added philanthropy to its resume. Though giving support to its members’ sons continues as the organization’s main goal, the women involved also have orchestrated food and clothing drives and donated money to charitable organizations as an example to their sons of what it means to give back to their communities.
The group recently assembled at Penn State’s University Park campus under the watchful eye of Nittany Lion football assistant coach Larry Johnson to practice for a charity football game against mothers of NBA players, with proceeds from the game benefitting children with autism.
