An incident of aggravated assault was reported by a volunteer fire police official at 10:50 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Railroad and Pine Streets in Philipsburg Borough, Centre County. The official was directing traffic after the Philipsburg fireworks display when a 59-year-old Philipsburg man failed to obey his directions and struck the right leg of the official with his Ford Mustang at a low speed.
The man left the scene, but the official was able to obtain a registration plate number, as he fled. The man was subsequently located at his residence and arrested for aggravated assault and several traffic violations. He was placed in the Centre County Jail pending an arraignment hearing. The official didn’t suffer any injuries.
