HARRISBURG – The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has named Michael Crowley as manager of the R.B. Winter State Park Complex based in Union County. He is former manager of Tyler State Park, Bucks County.
“From his former assignment at a heavily visited park outside Philadelphia, Michael brings a wealth of management skills, as well as a very strong enthusiasm for public enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors,” said Bureau of State Parks Director John Norbeck.
The 695-acre R.B. Winter State Park, with its seven-acre Halfway Lake, offers visitors a wide selection of recreational opportunities, including camping, swimming, hiking, fishing and hunting. Located along Route 192, the park is surrounded by Bald Eagle State Forest in Union County.
Crowley also will oversee three, smaller satellite parks: the three-acre Sand Bridge, also in Union County; Ravensburg, a 78-acre state park in Clinton County; and McCall Dam, totaling eight acres in Centre County.
“I am very excited to be working in R.B. Winter State Park, as well as Sand Bridge, McCall Dam and Ravensburg state parks,” Crowley said. “This is a wonderful region of Pennsylvania, and I look forward to continuing the great work that is being done here.”
Crowley began his Bureau of State Parks career in 2000, working first as a DCNR Ranger at Prince Gallitzin State Park, Cambria County. Assignments in the bureau’s management trainee program saw him serve at several state parks before becoming manager at the 1,711-acre Tyler State Park in 2004.
A native of Johnstown, Cambria County, Crowley, 39, received a bachelor’s degree in recreation and park management from Pennsylvania State University.
