COVERT AND MAGLET NEW DOG HOLLOW WINNERS
STRONGSTOWN, PA – Jason Covert of York Haven was in town to tune up for the UFO Show on Sunday and came away winning the Townsend Gas and Oil Super Late Model feature. Mark Maglet of Nanty Glo was able to keep it all together to win the Modified Four Cylinder main.
Repeat winners included Andrew Satterlee of Rochester Mills in the Stoystown Auto Wrecker Fastrak Late Models, Nick Goss of Punxsutawney continued to dominate the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Street Stocks, Justin Queen of Irvona picked up the Brush Valley Tire Pure Stock main and Wild Bill Hassenplug of Gallitzin won another Four Cylinder Sidewinder main.
A full field of Super Late Models answered flagman Kevin Smyers call for the green with Sammy Stile and Jason Covert on the front row. Stile pulled into an early lead as Covert ran second with Devin Friese third. The top three were pulling away from fourth place, as Covert was able to find the right groove and take the lead on lap 12.
Once in the lead, Friese and now Jeremy Miller began to work over Stile and eventually Miller got by Friese then Stiles and set his sights on the leader. Two quick cautions slowed the field, one on lap 22 and the other with just two laps remaining, as Miller threw everything he had at Covert, but Covert was able to hold on for the $2,500 top prize. Miller was second, Friese was third with Jared Hawkins and Stile rounding out the top five.
Heat wins went to Covert, Friese and Stile while Rick Davis won the B-main.
Andrew Satterlee led at the start and at the finish in the Fastrak Late Model main, but he had all the pressure he could handle and he even lost the lead for a few laps. Shane Weaver led the group trying to get the lead, but on lap six Ricky Meglaye took second and the lead as he set the pace for three laps before Satterlee was able to battle back and regain the top spot. As they were waging a battle for the lead Weaver wasn’t letting them out of his sight, as the top three jockeyed for the lead lap after lap in the caution filled event.
When the checkered flag finally waved it was Satterlee holding on to win over Meglaye, Weaver, Mike Laughard and Maurice Thompson. Satterlee, Weaver and Transten Stoner split the heats.
Nick Goss wired the Street Stock feature from flag to flag with Josh Jacoby in second trying to hold off the filed, but eventually Jeff Sweeney and then Tyler Hite got by the #88 and started to try and reel in the leader but Goss was able to get to the line before Hite could catch him. At the line it was Goss over Hite, Sweeney, Jacoby and Tim Laughard. Goss and Laughard split heat wins.
Rich Powell beat Matt Krause into the first turn to start the Pure Stocks feature as Andrew Koenig moved to second as fifth place starter Justin Queen was threading the needle on the front stretch, going three wide on the next lap to move into second. One there he focused on Powell as the duo ran door-to-door for three laps before Queen was able to take the lead.
Once out front Queen left the field to fight it out for second as Powell, Koenig and Krause fought it out for second. At the line it was Queen over Krause, Powell, Koenig and Eric Ager. Krause and Adam Pletcher won the heats.
The Four Cylinder Sidewinders hit the track with jack Theys beating Jayson Newlin into the first turn and setting the pace for the first two laps before Wild Bill Hassenplug took the lead and set the pace the rest of the distance. At the finish Hassenplug was chased by Ray Edwards, Jason Mullen, Theys and Ryan Claycomb. Hassenplug, Edwards and Sean Fitzpatrick won the heats.
Mark Maglet was able to hold off Bob Pease for the entire Modified Four Cylinder feature to get his first win of the season. Maglet took the lead at the start and was able to ward off all of Pease efforts as the multi-time winner tried everything to get the lead except wrecking the leader, but Pease couldn’t find the extra boost to get by Maglet. At the line it was Maglet winning over Pease, Tom Pavelko, Martin Vinosky and Paul Little. Maglet and Little shared heat wins.
