CLEARFIELD – Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library’s One World, Many Stories recently offered information for youth of the Clearfield area to travel without leaving the state. Preschoolers were shown what the world looks like from a hot air balloon, and presenters from the Elk Country Visitors Center and Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority showed school age participants great spots close to home. There are still plenty of events scheduled for the remainder of the summer for youth of all ages.
The second Family Fun Night of the summer will be held July 5 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Master puppeteer Steve Abrams will bring his “Aesop’s Fables: Puppet Theatre Inside Out” show to Shaw Public Library to entertain families of all ages. Steve Abrams involves his audiences in everything he does, from the simplest form of puppetry to an expert (and very funny) presentation of Aesop’s Fables. A brave mouse, a lazy fox, and a very determined turtle are the featured players. Youth are thrilled to shake hands with a strange, blue animal that lives in Steve’s suitcase. The audience will leave with smiling faces, a great turtle voice, and a memory of a warm encounter with the world of imagination and with their own creativity.
The remainder of the July 4th week brings a mid-summer break to the line-up of programs. Any participant who visits the library and checks out a book during the holiday week will receive a passport stamp for each day they visit. Passport stamps may be redeemed when the Souvenir Shop opens on July 11.
Registration for the One World, Many Stories summer reading program continues throughout the summer. All participants are asked to pick up their registration packets at the front desk of the library. Children ages birth through the completion of kindergarten should enroll in the Read-to-Me program. Youth who have recently completed grades 1 through 3 are encouraged to participate in the School Age A program and those who have recently completed grades 4 through 6 will enroll in the School Age B program. Those students who have recently completed grades 7 through 11 are invited to join the young adult reading program, and adults, including recent high school graduates, should register for the adult reading program. All registrations are completed online at the Shaw Public Library’s website www.clearfield.org/shaw.
The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Fridays from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Additional information is available by calling (814) 765-3271 during regular business hours or by visiting the Web site at www.clearfield.org/shaw.
