University Park, Pa. — A new, one-hour episode of The Journey: Big Ten Basketball 2011 featuring Penn State and all-time leading scorer Talor Battle highlights the Big Ten Network’s 13 consecutive hours of Nittany Lion programming on Wednesday, June 29.
The Penn State men’s basketball, football, wrestling and women’s track and field teams will be featured on the second of three Penn State Days this summer on BTN. The Nittany Lions also will be featured on July 26 with different programming.
In a special one-hour episode, BTN highlights Penn State’s memorable 2010-11 season at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 1 a.m. From a last second loss at Purdue through the Nittany Lions’ run to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game and NCAA Tournament berth, The Journey was behind the scenes with Battle as he embarks on his future after graduation. The episode will also chronicle the beginning of the Patrick Chambers era as the Nittany Lions’ head coach.
Immediately following The Journey, at 9 p.m. BTN will air the Nittany Lions’ thrilling two-point win over Illinois from Jan. 11, 2011, as Andrew Jones slammed home the game-winner in the final seconds, giving Penn State consecutive wins over Top 25 teams.
The Penn State wrestling team captured its first Big Ten Championship this past March and the conference’s championship meet will air Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Coach Cael Sanderson’s team went 5 of 5 in the finals, to give Penn State a one-point victory over defending champion Iowa. Two weeks later, Penn State captured its first NCAA Wrestling Championship since 1953.
Also among the events that will air Wednesday are Big Ten Football in 60: Penn State vs. Indiana on Nov. 20, 2010, as the Nittany Lions beat the Hoosiers before a partisan crowd at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. The game airs at 7 p.m.
Episodes of Big Ten’s Greatest Games featuring the Nittany Lions will air throughout the day. The 2006 FedEx Orange Bowl, in which Big Ten Champion Penn State beat Florida State in triple overtime, will air at 11 p.m.
The Big Ten Network televised 115 Penn State events during 2010-11, in addition to coverage of 15 Big Ten Championships and institutional programming. Twenty-five Penn State squads were featured amongst BTN’s more than 600 events in 2010-11.
The Big Ten Network is available to more than 80 million homes through agreements with more than 300 cable, satellite and telco providers in all 50 states and Canada. Blue Ridge, Adams and MetroCast Cable in Pennsylvania, though, do not carry the Big Ten Network. The network also is not available to Armstrong Cable customers in western Pennsylvania and the Medina and Youngstown, Ohio areas. A combined total of more than 35,000 Penn State alumni live in communities served by the four cable providers, in addition to thousands more fans and current Penn State students.
Multiple Penn State football games will air on the Big Ten Network this fall, including the Oct. 22 clash at Northwestern, which will kick at 6 p.m. CT in Evanston.
