HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett announced that the Commonwealth has reached a tentative labor agreement with Council 13 of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Both sides have agreed not to disclose the terms of the agreement until AFSCME has the opportunity to communicate the terms to its members. Governor Corbett and the union both feel that the agreement responsibly addresses the budgetary restraints and current economic climate facing Pennsylvania.
“I congratulate the parties on reaching a tentative agreement prior to expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement,” Corbett said. “I am pleased that the parties have reached an agreement that meets my administration’s goals and recognizes the fiscal challenges we face in Pennsylvania.”
“We’re pleased to have reached a tentative agreement that respects the rights of the employees we represent and the taxpayers of Pennsylvania,” said David Fillman, executive director of AFSCME Council 13.
AFSCME will meet with its local leaders on June 25 to discuss the proposal. The agreement, reached late Wednesday night, covers approximately 45,000 state employees, according to the union. Negotiations with other employee unions are continuing.
