University Park, Pa. — Ethan Gelfand has been selected as the director of basketball operations for the Penn State Lady Lion basketball team, head coach Coquese Washington announced Wednesday (June 22). Gelfand, who will take his post on July 5, comes to Penn State after five seasons at Central Michigan in a similar role.
"I am thrilled to have Ethan join our staff," Washington said. "His experiences at both Central Michigan and Wake Forest will prove to be invaluable to our program as we continue our climb to national prominence."
Gelfand will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties, including coordinating team travel and serving as the liaison for the Lady Lion Cager Club. He will oversee the Lady Lions’ summer camps and special projects, such as coaching clinics and alumni relations initiatives. Gelfand also will supervise the student managers and provide support for the team’s community outreach efforts.
Gelfand joins the Lady Lions after five seasons as the director of basketball operations at Central Michigan. While with the Chippewas, he was responsible for travel coordination, practice and game day management, community outreach and the ordering and distribution of apparel and equipment. He also supervised the women’s basketball student personnel and was responsible for scheduling CMU’s non-conference schedule.
Additionally, Gelfand served in the role of video coordinator where he organized the team’s film exchange and prepared scouting reports and other video projects for the women’s basketball staff. He also served as the camp director for the Chippewas’ summer camp programs.
Prior to his tenure at Central Michigan, Gelfand was a manager for the Wake Forest men’s basketball team, including a stint as the head manager in 2005. As the head manager, he oversaw a staff of eight managers that assisted in logistics of practice and game operations.
A native of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Gelfand served as a Red Sox replay ambassador for three summers. During his time at Wake Forest, he was active in Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society, and Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He served as the vice president and treasurer of Alpha Sigma Phi at Wake Forest.
Gelfand received his bachelor’s degree in communications from Wake Forest University in 2006.
