Robert R. Mitchell, 82 of Phililpsburg, passed away at his residenceĀ on June 15, 2011.
Born on Aug. 18, 1928, he was the son of the late John and Jeanne (Cowhan) Mitchell.
He was a member of the TrinityUnited Methodist Church in Philipsburg; an Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War; a member of the VFW Louis Jenkins Post 3450, Philiplsburg; a member of the BPO Elks 1173 and Moshannon Lodge 391, Free and Accepted Masons, both of Philipsburg; he was a member of the Chapter, Council and Consistory in the Valley of Williamsport and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon; he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Philipsburg for 47 years and a member of the Penna Employers of the National Guard; he was a founding member of Sinclair Child Services and a founding member of the Moshannon Valley Economic Develpment Partnership; he had been on the board of directors for Keystone Financial/Mid-State Bank; an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the founder of the Pinchy Hunting Club.
He was the owner and operator of the Robert R. Mitchell Company and was the owner and CEO of MSS Enterprises Inc. of Philipsburg.
He was a 1946 graduate of Brookville High School.
On Sept. 3, 1949 in Shippenville, he wed the former Jolene Harriger, who passed away on Sept. 28, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters Anna, Margaret and Helen Mitchell; and brothers John, Ronald and William Mitchell.
He is survived by daughters Kathleen Muir of Philipsburg and Laurie Wasilko and her husband Michael of Philipsburg; andĀ son Jeffrey Mitchell and his wife Deborah of Philipsburg. He was the last of his generation.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at the Beezer-Hearth Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Phililpsburg, with the Rev. Thomas A. McCoy officiating. Burial will be at Phililpsburg Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independant Honor Guard.
