HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, said that the state Department of Environmental Protection has awarded several contracts for local projects.
“I’m pleased to see this money going back into our local economy,” George said. “Projects such as these will create jobs and combat the lingering recession.”
A $1.5 million contract was awarded to Enviro Drill, Inc. of Bridgeville, Allegheny County, to help control mine subsidence in Brisbin. The project will involve mobilization and demobilization, implementation of an erosion and sediment control plan, rotary drilling, casing, and injecting more than 25,000 tons of grout material. The project will start in July and should be completed by January 2012.
An Abandoned Mine Reclamation Project in Baney Settlement, Goshen Township also was funded. The project includes grading of 225,000 yards of material, dewatering impoundments, installing rock lining with filter material, and seeding 24 acres. Earthmovers Unlimited, Inc. of Kylertown won the $322,000 contract. The project will begin in July and continue through March 2012.
The DEP also awarded a contract for almost $90,000 to Craig Fencing, Inc. of Altoona for a flood protection project in Curwensville. The project will involve repairing or replacing fencing, concrete walls, grounding rods, ladder rungs and stenciled station numbers. The project will start in July and be completed in November.
Finally, George said that Clearfield County won an almost $20,000 grant under the Recycling Performance Grant Program. The grant is based on more than 2,000 tons recycled in 2009.
“The grant program provides incentives for communities to increase recycling rates,” George said. “This helps spur economic growth and promote job creation. This grant and the contracts awarded locally will be utilized for important projects and programs.”
