George Swartz, 87, of Philipsburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday. He was a patient at Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Born Dec. 9, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Slother) Swartz. He was a member of the Faith Worship Center, Philipsburg, where he served as an elder and a deacon for several years.
He was self-employed for 40 years as a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was connected to the 66th Fighter Squadron of the 57th Fighter Group.
He married Josephine M. (Janusz) May 31, 1951 in Osceola Mills. She preceded him in death Aug. 21, 1982.
Surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Michael and Paul Swartz, both of Philipsburg and Susan Petriskie and Sophie Rebo, both of Clearfield.
Mr. Swartz also had two half-sisters, Becky Stauffer and Anna Socie and two half-brothers, Auman Brelo and Andrew Brelo.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St. Philipsburg, with the Rev. LaMarr Pirkle officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the funeral home.
