PORT MATILDA – A 59-year-old Julian woman suffered moderate injuries after being drug behind her vehicle, before it struck a utility pole Monday night in Port Matilda Borough, Centre County.
The Philipsburg-based state police reported that Helen V. Greenland, 59, of Julian was treated at the scene by the Port Matilda Emergency Medical Services and was then transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
According to the report, the Greenland vehicle was parked along the 500 block of South High Street. She attempted to drive away at which time she noticed her parking/emergency brake was on.
She subsequently pulled what she believed was the parking brake release; however, it was the release for the vehicle’s hood. Greenland exited the vehicle to close the hood, leaving the vehicle in neutral, police said.
At that time, she pulled the parking/emergency brake while standing outside the vehicle. Her vehicle began to coast forward down the hill along South High Street.
Greenland attempted to stop the vehicle but failed to do so and was drug for approximately 10 feet before falling away from the vehicle. Her vehicle coasted by the intersection with Beckwith Road where it struck a utility pole.
Her vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.
