BRADFORD – Senior shortstop Derek Danver cracked four hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as the Clearfield Area High School baseball team pulled down the curtain on the regular season by outlasting Bradford 11-9 in non-league action Saturday afternoon.
Â
The No. 2 batter and his three classmates at the top of the order came through big time for coach Sid Lansberry’s Bisons, who will take a 9-10 record into the District 9 Class AAA Playoffs.
Â
Jarrett Fulmer got the job done in the leadoff spot by reaching base on two hits, a walk and an error and scoring all four times, while Andrew Redden had two triples, two RBIs and scored two runs and Tyler Jacobson added a pair of sacrifice flies.
Â
Fulmer also pitched three innings to save the win for Trevor Flanagan.
Â
Clearfield changed the score in every inning except the fifth but couldn’t put the Owls away.
Â
Danver got the Bisons rolling with his fifth home run of the season after Fulmer started the make-up game with a double. Redden followed with a triple and scored on Jacobson’s sac fly.
Â
Bradford answered with run-scoring doubles by Steve Wilber and Aaron Fishkin, and the two teams matched singletons the next two frames.
Â
For Clearfield, Steve Miller walked and scored on Danver’s single in the second, and Flanagan singled and scored on an error in the third.
Â
Aided by a wild pitch and two errors, the Bisons padded their lead to 7-4 in the fourth without a hit.
Â
Jacobson’s second sac fly plated Fulmer with another unearned run in the sixth.
Â
With two outs in the seventh, the Bisons added another trio on Danver’s RBI single and Redden’s two-run triple for a seemingly comfortable 11-6 advantage.
Â
However, a hit batsman, hits by Wilber and Fishkn and two wild pitches by Fulmer netted Bradford three runs, and Tom Smith’s two-out single brought the tying run to the plate. Fulmer went to a full count on Anthony Zimbardi before retiring him on a fly ball for the Bisons’ first save of the year.
Â
Flanagan worked four innings for his fourth victory, giving up seven hits and four earned runs. He struck out two Owls, walked one and hit one.
