On Wednesday, the Ridgway-based state police investigated the death of a 65-year-old Ridgway man. The male was located in the driveway area at the Tapawango Lodge, and his death appeared to be from natural causes. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Police were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Elk County Coroner’s office.
There weren’t any injuries reported after a two-vehicle accident at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday along state Route 219 south of Shaver Road in Horton Township. A 38-year-old Smethport man was traveling north, while a vehicle driven by Lawrence Sprague, 59, of Johnsonburg was headed south. The earlier man’s vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane, and the Sprague vehicle attempted to avoid it by moving off the roadway. But the Sprague vehicle was struck on its driver’s side, and both came to a controlled stop off the roadway. The investigation revealed the Smethport man had fallen asleep, which caused the crash. Charges are to be filed against him for traffic violations.
