Over 780 RSVP volunteers can be found providing valuable service to approximately 70 non-profit organizations and health care facilities throughout Clearfield County. The life experiences and skills of these volunteers enrich the programs for which they serve. RSVP volunteers generously give of their time, talents, skills and knowledge.
In 1973, the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library became one of Clearfield County RSVP’s first stations. Presently, RSVP volunteers continue to serve at the library.
At the Shaw Library, duties for the volunteers vary. You may see a volunteer working at the circulation desk, cleaning books, repairing minor book damage, keeping shelves tidy and in proper order, preparing new books for circulation, providing light clerical assistance, assisting patrons as needed, or helping with light maintenance. These volunteer duties help to make the library an efficient, user-friendly, and productive environment for area residents.
Part of the mission statement for the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public
Library states, “The purpose of the library is to provide free access to materials to meet the recreational, educational, informational and cultural needs of the citizens of Clearfield County.” Many special events and reading programs are offered to the public to assist in meeting this mission.
Volunteers also assist with special projects such as assisting with inventory, helping with book sales, acting as host/hostess or baking cookies for special events, or registering youth in summer events.
When asked about the volunteers who donate their time and talents to the Shaw Library, Paula Marshall, Director, said, “The library is very fortunate to have such wonderful volunteers through the RSVP program. We could not deliver the quality library service that we do without these individuals. The knowledge, skills, and experience that they bring to the library is outstanding and should be applauded.”
RSVP volunteers can also be found volunteering their time at the
Curwensville Public Library, the DuBois Public Library, or the Glendale Public
Library located in Coalport. If you love to read, enjoy working with children or the public, and want to make a difference in your community, why not consider volunteering your time at one of your local libraries? Training is provided and the scheduling is flexible.
