It was the second win of the year over the Cardinals for the Tide who knocked off DCC 5-0 in the first game of the season for both squads back on March 28.
Curwensville senior Garrett LaBorde had a big day at the plate by banging out three hits and driving in five Tide base runners. One of the hits for LaBorde a was two run homer to left field in the top half of the fourth inning.
Not to be outdone, another Tide senior, Shae Best smacked two home runs in the morning contest.
Best had an inside the park homer to lead off the second inning and then cranked one over the left field fence in the top of the seventh. Both round trippers were solo shots.
Afterwards Tide head coach Denny Johns spoke about his team’s offensive output, “I was really happy to see our bats bounce back today after yesterday’s (Friday) lack of offense. We just need to find consistency in our game because we have been too inconsistent all year long.”
Brad Coudriet also had two hits for Curwensville while Jesse Hoover and Tanner Elensky each crossed home plate three times.
Boone McGary had a double for the Tide, who also stole six bases in the contest.
Dom Goldbach led the Cardinals with three hits with Ayden Hanes, Mark Walker, Ben Miknis and Cody Gulvas all having two apiece.
It was the first victory of the year for Best who got relief help from LaBorde.
With all the weather related postponements, the Tide, like other area teams, must play a lot of games in a few days. On Monday the Curwensville squad, now 4-4 on the year, will travel to Kane to face the Wolves in a doubleheader that starts at 3 :30 pm. Then on Tuesday the Tide will return to their home field to battle the Rovers of Brockway in another doubleheader, with the first contest beginning at 3:30 pm.
Johns knows exactly what’s ahead for his team, “It’s going to be a real test for everybody’s pitching staffs with all the area postponements. We have doubleheaders Monday and Tuesday followed by single games on Wednesday and Thursday. So that’s six games in four days. Throwing strikes will be the key for guys who will be seeing the mound for the first time this season.”
