The Curwensville Golden Tide baseball squad did almost exactly that – allowing just one hit to visiting Moshannon Valley. Except one thing, the Tide lost 11-0.
The box score says it all. The Tide pitchers issued 14 bases on balls. They hit three Black Knight batters and committed three errors.
Moshannon Valley starting pitcher Trevor Coleman did his thing the other way. Coleman gave up just two base hits to the Tide, struck out 11 and walked only two in a game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
The Black Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first three innings were complete without even registering a base hit. Mo Valley actually didn’t get it’s first and only hit until the top half of the fifth inning when Luther Harlow doubled.
Mo Valley put the game away in the fourth and fifth innings as they scored four times in each frame.
The two hits for Curwensville came on singles by Jesse Hoover and Hunter McCracken.
Tide head coach Denny Johns couldn’t be happy about his own pitching staff but did take a moment to praise Knight pitcher Coleman, “(Trevor) Coleman really impressed me today out there on the mound for Mo Valley. He totally dominated the entire game, from start to finish.”
About his own squad Johns said, “We just need to move on to tomorrow (Saturday) because there is nothing good to carry away from this game.”
The Golden Tide (3-4) are on the road Saturday in DuBois to play the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) at 11 am. Curwensville defeated DCC in the first game of the season 5-0.
