HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Clearfield County, announced that two important deadlines are approaching related to those formerly insured under the adultBasic health plan that expired on February 28.
“The state Insurance Department has announced that the Blue Cross / Blue Shield companies have agreed to waive their normal coverage restrictions regarding pre-existing conditions for individuals moving from adultBasic to the Blues’ SpecialCare Plans,” George said.
“This only applies to former adultBasic enrollees who switch directly into Special Care by May 2, so time is critical.”
After May 2, pre-existing conditions may not be covered under the SpecialCare plan. Former adultBasic enrollees should act quickly in order to be covered.
George also reminded former adultBasic customers whose incomes may have decreased, who have become disabled, or had significant health issues develop to again examine the state’s Medical Assistance options. That information is available at www.insurance.pa.gov.
“Former adultBasic enrollees should be aware that the adultBasic helpline, 1-800-GO-BASIC, is set to close on May 31,” George said. “Anyone with questions should call before that date.”
People seeking additional information about the SpecialCare plan should contact the Blue Cross or Blue Shield plan at the following numbers:
