SYKESVILLE – A search for an abandoned animal at a Sykesville apartment resulted in another find; a human fetus.
According to the state police in DuBois, they were called on April 23 to an apartment on West Main Street. The report stated that a landlord had called regarding an abandoned animal left behind when the tenants left a week earlier. While the landlord was checking on the conditions of the apartment, he discovered a mason jar containing a human fetus on top of the television.
The Sykesville Borough Department is handling the abandoned animal complaint. The state police seized the mason jar for further investigation. After consultation with the Jefferson County Coroner and Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, it was determined that there were no criminal violations. According to the police report, Pennsylvania law stipulates burial for a fetus over 16 weeks of gestation, and this was not the case, indicating that the fetus was under 16 weeks. The fetus was then turned over to the coroner’s office.
