LEWISTOWN – The Clearfield Area High School softball team salvaged a split for Monday’s long bus trip to Mifflin County with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over Indian Valley.
Â
The Lady Bisons were edged 5-3 by Lewistown in the first of the two Mountain League crossover make-up games.
Â
They appeared headed for another loss when Indian Valley’s Mikala Britt held them hitless through four innings and the Lady Indians got to Rachel Hoffman for three runs on Taylor Boyer’s two-run triple and the second throwing error of the frame.
Â
Clearfield (3-4) got one run back in the fifth via an Indian Valley (2-6) misplay after reliever Rachel Zimmerman issued three free passes.
Â
With a little help, coach Bob Dixon’s team took a 4-3 lead in the sixth. B.J. Bowman and Suzie Colesar singled and Hoffman walked to load the bases. Two wild pitches and two passed balls gave the Lady Bisons three runs.
Â
Britt re-entered the game and was tagged for what proved to be the deciding markers in the seventh. Andrea Butler and Bowman walked and scored on Colesar’s groundout and Hoffman’s single, respectively.
Â
Indian Valley, which out-hit Clearfield 7-3 and left the sacks full in the fifth and sixth innings, tacked on a singleton in the lower seventh on Macie Lucas’ triple and Paige Johnson’s sacrifice fly.
Â
Hoffman struck out 10 and walked four in her second victory.

Â
Against Lewistown (4-4), Bowman quickly put the Lady Bisons in front with her first home run of the season, but the Lady Panthers countered with singles by Maggie Amspacker, Emily Tomasello and Caryssa Ammerman off Heather Picard.
Â
The hosts broke the tie in the fourth on a walk, a single and one of Clearfield’s three errors and made it 4-1 in the fifth on a pair of hits, a double steal and Cheyenne Stonerook’s groundout.
Â
The teams again matched tallies in the sixth.
Â
Bowman singled and scored on the second passed ball of the inning, while Kali Hunter had an RBI-single for Lewistown.
Â
The Lady Bisons made it interesting on a walk and hits by Butler and Melinda Owens in the seventh. However, only Robyn McBride touched home plate, and that was on a wild pitch by winner Brooke Morningstar.
Â
“We didn’t play our best game, but Heather kept us in it,” Dixon said. “We just didn’t hit when we had chances to score.”
Â
Bowman accounted for three of Clearfield’s seven hits off Morningstar, who struck out eight and walked two.
Â
Picard gave up 10 hits and walked two. She had two strikeouts.
