LEWISTOWN — After not winning a meet in over four years, the Clearfield Area High School girl’s track and field team picked up its third and fourth wins in three days when they swept host Lewistown 75-74 and Bald Eagle Area 100-44 to raise their record to 4-3.
The young boy’s squad, however, was swept for the second time this week when they were beaten 116-34 by Lewistown and 87-63 to Bald Eagle Area to drop to 0-7.
Freshman Jill Heichel led the way for the Lady Bisons by picking up four wins (100 hurdles, 4×100 relay, 300 hurdles, 4×400 relay) in each meet.
Head coach John Jacob had alot of praise to hand out to his girl’s squad, “…Jill Heichel had a very solid meet in the hurdles and relays winning four events in both meets. She is developing into a good hurdler and will continue to improve as the year goes on. Jessica Shomo continues to dominate the 100m and remains undefeated in the MAC league. Her outstanding running and solid jumping make her a threat to win four events in almost every meet. Johanna Ryan has quietly improved her times in the 1600 and 800 and remains a threat to win any distance event. Johanna has been one of my hardest workers for the last four years in both cross country and track. That hard work is really paying dividends as she is enjoying her most successful season.”

On the boy’s side, Rico Longoria led the way by winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes and running a leg on the winning 4×100 relay team.
Despite the loss, Coach Jacob sees good thing from his team, “On the boys side we are steadily improving and I think the wins will start coming soon. We really gave Bald Eagle a scare tonight but our inexperience caught up with us again. Rico Langoria had one of his best meets picking up wins in the 100, 200 and 400 relay. Rico has been steadily improving  this whole year and is becoming a real threat in the short sprints. Dylan Graham ran an impressive hurdle race and picked up his first victory in the 300’s tonight. With very little practice he has improved by leaps and bounds over the past 3 meets.  The boys throwers  have developed into a solid unit. Corey Knepp, Cliff Hill and Damien McGary continue to rack up points. As the year goes on I can see this group becoming even more and more competitive.’
