CLEARFIELD – Libraries are places for new beginnings. Whether you are getting your first library card, in need of a computer, or planning a trip, the library is the place where your story begins. This National Library Week, join our nation’s libraries and librarians and create your own story at your library.
The Shaw Public Library is celebrating National Library Week and invites the community to stop by the facility and check out their local public library. As part of the celebration, the Friends of the Shaw Public Library will kickoff their annual fundraising campaign.
“We are so appreciative of the community support of the library and are hopeful for another successful Friends of Shaw Public Library fundraising campaign this year,” stated Paula Marshall, library director.
Throughout the week, youth that visit the library will have the opportunity to participate in the “Check out to win” event. Additionally, area teens can get a sneak peak at the new Young Adult area and check out a few of the numerous new young adult book selections that were made possible by a recent grant awarded to the library.
The Clearfield Area Kiwanis is hosting the Spring Tyme Story Session on April 12 at 10:30 a.m. The book, Whose Shoes? A Shoe for Every Job by Stephen R. Swinburne is the 2011 Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child selection. A variety of stories and activities are planned and every family in attendance will receive a copy of the book. Registration is currently underway and individuals may register their preschooler by calling or stopping by the library.
“Every day, libraries across the country are helping people create their own unique stories,” says Marshall, “Whether it is by opening a book and exploring distant lands, or by learning how to use new technologies, people at our library are creating new stories for themselves.”
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
