Martin “Marty” Michael Brennan Sr., 80, of Brisbin died Friday at his home.
Born May 7, 1930 in Fernwood, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Lillian (Fox) Brennan. He’ll always be remembered for his smile as well as his generosity for sharing vegetables from his garden.
Mr. Brennan was a 1948 graduate of the former Bigler Township High School in Madera. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He worked as a field supervisor of western Pennsylvania for the Pennsylvania State Auditor General’s Office for over 20 years. He also worked as an accountant for the former Avery Coal Company and prepared personal income taxes both before and after his retirement.
He is a member of Our Lady of the Valley #10376 Knights of Columbus, Houtzdale, B.P.O.E. Clearfield, and was past chairman of the Moshannon Valley Democratic Party and a member of the Janesville V.F.W. He was a former Clearfield County Controller.
On July 3, 1955, he married Theresa Dolores Kassab of Houtzdale, whom preceded him in death Jan. 7, 2010 after being happily married for 54 years.
He’s survived by three children, Julie Brennan of Lock Haven; Martin M. Brennan Jr. and his wife, Zolorest of Huntersville, NC; and John P. Brennan and his wife, Susan of DuBois.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Zalinia M. Cole and her husband, Patrick of Hickory, NC; M. Michael Brennan III of Huntersville, NC; and Riley R. and Kaylee A. Brennan of DuBois.
Mr. Brennan was the last of the 11 children of Thomas and Lillian Brennan. He’s also survived by one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Chew and her husband, William of DuBois and four brothers-in-law, Gabriel Kassab and his wife, Gertrude of Pittsburgh; David Kassab of Washington, D.C.; G. Edward Kassab and his wife, Jane of Richmond, VA; and Raymond Kassab and his wife, Anna Marie of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Jane Belin, Betty Popyack, Lorraine “Brandy” Faughner, Kathryn Gow, Edith Spiwak, Lillian Brennan and Margaret Brennan and three brothers, John Brennan, Thomas Brennan and Reuben Brennan.
Also preceding him in death were nine brothers-in-law, Matthew Belin, Andrew Popyack, Harold Faughner, Frank Gow, William Spiwak, Jacob
Kassab, Bert Remeselnick, Richard Hocking and Harold Grove and nine sisters-in-law, Helen Brennan, Lillian Brennan, Sophia Brennan, Hazel Kassab, Helen Kassab, Cecilia Remeselnick, Kathryn Hocking, Minnie Grove and Delores Kassab.
Friends will be received from 3 – 5 p.m. and from 7 – 9 p.m. Sunday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale with the Rev. Father Joseph P. Staszewski as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Houtzdale.
