400-yard Deer Hunter Matches
Deer Rifle Class
Sporter-barreled actions, with functional safety, muzzle brakes are allowed.
Stock must be suitable for hunting use; there is not to be any bench rest stocks or adapters. However, stock bedding or replacement is allowed.
Also, trigger adjustment or replacement is allowed. Hunting ammunition must be legal under the Pennsylvania Game Commission laws. There’s a minimum bullet diameter of 6-mm, and maximum scope of 10x fixed or variable set to 10x.
A trophy will be awarded at the end of the season.
Factory Varmint Class
Factory (not custom shop) heavy barreled (V/T) rifles, with functional safety can be used. A single-shot or repeater action, factory stock and bipods are allowed.
Also, stock bedding and trigger adjustment (not replacement) are allowed. There aren’t to be bench rest stocks, bench rest adapters or flat bottom Savage rifles.
Any factory caliber, any bullets and any scope power can be used.
Unlimited Class
Any rifle, any center-fire caliber under .40, any bullets and any scope power can be used.
Course of Fire
There is a match fee of $5 per target.
A 400-yard, at “life size” deer target will be scored at 5,3,1,0 points. There are five shots per target in 10 minutes. Participants are not sighting shots.
The lowest five holes on target will be scored. Firing will be done from the bench, with separate front and rear rests. The club-provided wind flags will be placed at 100, 200 and 300 yards only.
The first through third place finishes will be paid in the deer rifle, factory varmint and unlimited classes.
Anyone who cannot keep all of their shots within the backstop will not be allowed to continue firing.
The 400-yard Deer Hunter Matches have been scheduled for the following dates: May 15, June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11 and Oct. 9. All matches begin at 1 p.m.
