UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — To show support for children in military families, the Nittany Lion Kids Club will be participating in the upcoming Salute to the Military Child event taking place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in the Ag Arena on Penn State’s University Park campus. The Kids Club will be offering free memberships for the 2011-2012 school year to military children in attendance, as well as hosting games and giving away prizes.
“We are thrilled to be able to show our support and offer an afternoon of fun for the children,” said Tara Wyckoff, coordinator of the Nittany Lion Kids Club, “and with a free membership to the Kids Club, we’re excited to extend this one day of fun into a year of free activities and events hosted by Penn State Athletics to children of deployed soldiers.”
Salute to the Military Child is a special event to honor military youth in the local community. It is being sponsored by Operation: Military Kids in cooperation with students from Penn State’s recreation, parks, tourism and management class, “Programming in Recreation and Leisure Services.” The event will take place in the Ag Arena, located at the corner of East Park Avenue and Fox Hollow Road, and will feature food, games and music. Attendance is free and open to both military families and the general public.
The Nittany Lion Kids Club, presented by Highmark, is Penn State’s all-sports fan club for kids in the 8th grade and below. Membership costs $25 and includes a free youth ticket to Penn State sporting events (excluding football games), a free Penn State lunch bag, and invitations to exclusive behind-the-scenes Penn State activities.
