WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – A 28-year-old Rockingham, VT man was arrested for possessing approximately 20 pounds of high grade marijuana following a traffic stop Thursday morning on Interstate 80 eastbound at mile marker 96 in Washington Township, Jefferson County.
Jason Paul Kobel, 28, of Rockingham, VT was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana, the Dubois-based state police reported.
According to the incident report, state police initiated a traffic stop of the Kobel vehicle at 10:05 a.m. Numerous indicators of criminal activity were observed during the stop, leading to a search of the vehicle. The investigation resulted in the seizure of the marijuana.
Kobel’s bail was set at $250,000 monetary; he was unable to post bail, police said. He was subsequently committed to the Jefferson County Prison, where he awaits a preliminary hearing that’s been scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 1.
