Shirley Mae Atkinson, 88, of DuBois, passed away on March 21, 2011 at Christ the King Manor.
Born on July 20, 1922 in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Sanford S. and Dessie (Hartzfeld) Provin. She married Joseph Atkinson on July 25, 1943 in Texas. He survives.
She graduated from DuBois High School and had attended Alleghany College.
Mrs. Atkinson was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ where she was a member of Woman’s Guild, and the choir. She was a TV hostess at Maple Avenue Hospital and member of Clara Hall.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, camping at Parker Dam, traveling the United States and Canada, canning, and baking. Mrs. Atkinson loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard L. (Marianne) Atkinson of DuBois and two daughters: Barbara S. (Jerry) Ralston and Betty Lou (Roger) Kopshina of DuBois; ten grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Harry Robinson of Wellsboro, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Jo Robinson, a great grandson, Tyler Sebring, and a brother, Sanford Provin.
Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ on March 24 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Newell officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. on March 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
