HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said he’s been notified that a local business was awarded a grant by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
“I’m happy to offer my congratulations to Clearfield Leather Inc., operating as Wickett & Craig of America and located in Curwensville,” George said. “The company has recently been awarded a grant under the Small Business Advantage Grant program in the amount of $7,272.”
The grant will be used for purchasing and installing adjustable frequency drives, which control machinery speeds and conserve energy. Under the grant program, businesses can apply for a 50 percent matching grant of up to $7,500 for implementation of equipment or processes to reduce energy consumption and pollution prevention.
“Programs like this lower costs for small businesses,” George said. “When costs go down, jobs are created.”
The program is for Pennsylvania small business owners who employ no more than 100 employees and are a separate legal business entity at the time the application is submitted. Applicants must be for-profit business enterprises that are corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, sole proprietorships or other legal entities.
“The program is not currently open. However I urge business owners to visit the DEP’s Web site at www.depweb.state.pa.us and learn more about application windows and fund availability,” George said.
